What is a Job Search Visa?


For those who want to immigrate to Germany, a Long-Term Residence Permit allows you to stay for up to six months in the country and look for a job. If at the end of this period you have found employment, you will be allowed to work there and live there. Be aware that having a Long-Term Residency Permit

does not mean that you will be allowed to start work for a company in the country.

In order to obtain a job seeker visa for Germany, you need the following:

  1. Be eligible to apply

  2. Compile all the necessary documents

  3. Fill out an application form and book your visa appointment

Eligibility of applicants

There are several criteria that you need to fulfill to be eligible to apply for the Germany job seeker visa:

  • Hold a Bachelor/Master’s Degree from a German university or an equivalent foreign degree

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in your related field of study

  • Show proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay during the time you are in Germany

  • Have travel or medical insurance for your entire stay in Germany or until you get your Work Permit

To apply for the German Job Seeker visa, you must follow these steps:

  1. Complete the German job seeker visa application form.

  2. Make a visa appointment.

  3. Collect the required documents for the Jobseeker visa.

  4. Attend the interview at the German Embassy/Consulate.

  5. Pay the job seeker visa fees.

What Is the Germany Job Seeker Visa Fee?

The German job seeker visa fee is €75 taking into consideration that it is considered as a type of long-term visa. The visa fee is subject to change at any time and the money will not get reimbursed to you if your job seeker visa to Germany gets rejected.

Can I Extend the Germany Job Seeker Visa?

The German job seeker visa cannot be extended. This means if you are unable to find work during the time your visa is valid (six months), you will have to return to your home country.

If you are able to find work in Germany during the time you spend here on your job-seeking visas, you will not be required to return home and apply for a working visa/residence permit because you can do this in Germany.

Can I Work with a German Job-Seeker Visa?

No, you are not allowed to take up employment with a job-seeker visa. Once you have found a job in Germany, you must apply for a residence permit for employment.
